Crown Care Sundays: Turning Hair Day Into Healing Time

Growing up, Sundays were for resetting—laundry, church, and coconut oil on the stove.

My mother would sit me between her knees, a bowl of warm oil by her side, humming an old tune as she sectioned and smoothed my curls. It wasn’t just about getting ready for the week. It was love. It was legacy.

Now I call it Crown Care Sunday.

Because hair care isn’t just maintenance—it’s mindfulness. It’s the time we take to care for our outer selves while listening to what’s going on inside.

So how do you turn your hair day into healing time? Here’s how I guide my own ritual:

  1. Set the mood. Light incense. Play music that grounds you. Open a window. Let your space feel intentional.
  2. Speak to your crown. As you detangle, massage, and cleanse, speak affirmations aloud. “I release stress.” “I welcome softness.” “I am worthy of care.”
  3. Use what loves you back. Choose products that soothe—not strip. Oils that nourish. Scents that calm. Ingredients that protect.
  4. Take your time. This isn’t a race. Let the conditioner sit while you sit in stillness. Breathe deeply. Drink water.
  5. Wrap it up with gratitude. Look in the mirror and thank your body for carrying you. Your hair for growing. Yourself for showing up.

Whether you’re washing loose coils or retwisting locs, Crown Care Sunday is your permission to be present.

You don’t need a full spa setup. Just intention, warmth, and products that make you feel like yourself—only softer.

Honor your crown. Let your hair routine be your healing.

Softly yours,
Sarai Alani 💛
